And not sharing a kitchen – it’s great, really great.
After student houses, flat-shares, living with boyfriends. I was finally able to live alone three years ago – and I love it, apart from my dog, it’s the best thing about my life.:-) It’s my biggest expense, not sharing the rent and the bills, but it’s worth every single penny. Hope it all works out for you. Sending you good karma. (I’ve read your blog for years, not sure if I’ve commented before or not, I love reading about all the recipes you try out and the food always looks delicious).

I would love to have my own kitchen where every ingredient in the house was mine! Your asian-inspired sauce sounds exactly the same as what I cook all the time! A dash of lime juice added to that is a great finishing touch too.

Sorry about your break up! But happy singleness. And like Amanda said living alone is the best. The minute my lease with my roommate ends I am moving into a 1 bedroom.
And salt is overrated

I am sorry to hear about the breakup. I wish you the best of luck (and happy cooking!) in your new apartment. When we first moved into our apartment 2 years ago it took me a while to stock my kitchen too. Just buy a few things at a time and you’ll be stocked before you know it!

sorry about the breakup, Cyn. i am sending many hugs & happyfaced thoughts your way…
having your own place rocks socks – and it is super exciting! i was roommateless for about (4) months a few years back – man, it was the absolute best. the best thing about having your own place is stocking the pantry with everything you super love the most & getting to make all the yummies you want without having to keep yummies out that someone else may not like.
good call on using soy for the saltiness – brilliant, i say! ‘fu & bok choy = one delicious combination, and it looks most yum! i don’t know about you, but i love grocery shopping & getting lots of basics, staples, ‘n such – have fun with it if it’s your thing, and you should totally treat youself to something & indulge a bit on a few yummy items.

cyn! when i moved into my new empty house, i also sadly realized that i had no salt! it’s not one of those first things you remember to buy, like trash cans and toilet paper. but it’s so, so upsetting when you need it and it’s not there.

Hey! Sorry to hear about your breakup! I recently found out about it, when reading your latest entries. I wonder what it’d be like to live by myself (even without the boyfriend). I think I’d appreciate having my own space and cooking/baking whatever I want.
I have some baby bok choy, and I’m probably going to do something similar.

Well, now good on you, missy! You’re way too smart to be squandering your best years rollercoastering through ‘relationships.’ There are far too many fun guys out there to be ‘exclusive’ about one particular. Besides, if you’ve figured out anything so far, you have to know that monogamy is just as much a load of crap for women as it is for men. Stay single and in charge!
